5 Things to Accept When Building a Business Online

1. There are No rules

Rules box  you in and cause you to play small. When you are taking a business training, following a “guru” or “expert”, you’ve got to get really good at discerning what feels aligned for you in what they are sharing. There is no cookie cutter approach. It’s about taking what others have done and using it as a starting point. From there, you have to discern what works and what doesn’t and create your own path forward.

2. It’s Not a Strategy issuE

If you feel stuck or frustrated with the lack of growth in your business, don’t jump to strategy first to solve it. The right strategy works only when you get to the root of the “stuckness” or frustration. The answer lies with the part of yourself who is scared of success. Get to know her. She needs to be acknowledged, held, loved, nudged, and made to feel safe with growth. From there, pick the strategy that your scared self has the capacity for.

3. Ego will both Serve & Sabotage yoU

The ego is powerful for protecting you from fear and will feed you all sorts of stories to keep you playing small. This is not always a bad thing. Sometimes you don’t have the capacity to play bigger and that is ok. However, ego can also take you out of alignment and go for things that may create quick wins but leads to burnout and an emptiness. Checking in with ego and discerning if it is being useful or hindering is important.

4. Biz growth is a Game in capacitY buildinG

It doesn’t matter how much you know, how much value you can give others, or how smart you are. If you aren’t focused on growing your capacity to serve, you will not achieve growth with ease and flow. Instead of asking yourself what more you can do to grow, ask yourself what more you can let go of. If you aren’t sure, start with perfectionism, caring what others think, ignoring the part of yourself who is scared, societal conditionings, and limiting beliefs.

5. There is NO Way Around Having to Sell yourselF

Sales can be more genuine, authentic, non-pushy, and aligned. But at the end of the day, if you aren’t comfortable with sharing your offers, inviting people to buy from you, and ultimately selling your value, you ain’t going nowhere! Clarity and confidence on your true value, who your value is for, and how you want to deliver that value and share it with the world is how you sell and something  you need to continue to master.

Instead of asking myself “what can I do to make more money in my business?” I’ve been asking myself how I can increase my CAPACITY to make more money in my business.

It’s a way better question for me and one I have been asking my clients lately.

As feminine beings in our businesses, it is so important we honour our energy when it comes to generating revenue. You can implement all sorts of strategies to grow and scale your business but if you don’t honour your capacity, you will end up burnt out, out of alignment, stressed and in constant struggle to grow.

Your efforts should be focussed on capacity building so that you can show up fully, create incredible offers, and serve the hell out of your clients WHILE still having enough in the mornings and at the end of the day for yourself, your kids, and partner.

For me, capacity building looks like:

  • meditating daily
  • journaling
  • reparenting and holding space for my inner child
  • eating my damn greens
  • movement
  • setting and keeping boundaries like a mo fo
  • giving up on people pleasing
  • intentionally setting time aside to play and be present with my kids
  • music and my bar star moves

And btw, sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better, you have to go backwards to go forwards and that can be scary financially but it’s worth it, I promise.

It will set you up for long term success and making money will be that much easier, showing up to your business that much more fulfilling, and living your life that much more enjoyable!

Approach the failures with curiosity instead of judgement and you will find the opportunity in it. This is the gold meant for you!

Commitment

Stay committed to the journey back to self, finding and staying true to your values, and to finding your way to the solution.

Community

You are not meant to do business and life alone. Manage your capacity and if you need others to hold things for you, help you, or support you, then reach out.

Which one could you implement more of right now? For me, it’s community!

As the one who always helps, mentors, guides and cheerleads others, I find it hard to ask for that for myself. It’s something I’m working on!

While I take responsibility for everything in my life, I sometimes need someone to hold space for me while I figure my shit out. Someone to help me see the answer I already have inside me, someone to help me organize my next steps, someone who can be with me as I sit with the emotions that come up as I go through uncomfortable growth.

It can feel really vulnerable to be in community with your truth and really uncomfortable but if it’s the right person or group, it’s everything.

Special shout-out to my untamed mama’s who’s that group for me this year. Last session I was so mad I couldn’t talk and they held that space for me and I realized how accepting and loving it feels to be on the receiving end of community.

Find the people not looking to solve your problems but who will show up curious and committed to seeing you and loving you through the good, the ugly and everything in between!
